UFC President Dana White and Pennsylvania Athletic Commission ,Nate Marquardt's mysterious failed medicals ?

assumed UFC President Dana White and Pennsylvania Athletic Commission Executive Director Greg Sirb would reveal more details of Nate Marquardt's mysterious failed medicals and release from the promotion during the UFC on Versus 4 telecast.

That never materialized Sunday evening. Although White and Sirb both appeared on the broadcast, neither could provide any specifics regarding Marquardt's situation.

They cited Pennsylvania HIPPA laws that prevent the release of a fighter's medical issues as the reason for their silence.

“Nate Marquardt is going to have to man up and tell the world why he didn't pass his medicals,” White said on television. “When he does that, I think everyone will understand why he was cut from the UFC.”

Marquardt and his team have declined to discuss why he didn't meet Pennsylvania medical requirements and pulled out of a main event bout with Rick Story a day before it was scheduled.

But, according to Marquardt's twitter, that will end shortly.

“I will personally be addressing all issues related to my medicals, etc this Tuesday,” Marquardt posted.

The broadcast did confirm the problem had nothing to do with Marquardt dropping to welterweight for the first time in his UFC career. Versus reported that Marquardt was on weight at 170 pounds hours before Friday's weigh-in.

Sirb said both the commission and Marquardt were aware of the issue well in advance of the fight, but assumed it would be taken care of before the weigh-in.

“We tried to give Nate as much time as possible to satisfy our medical requirements,” Sirb said. “It got down to the 24th hour, about 3:00 on Friday, and he didn't satisfy them. The fight had to be pulled.”

White spoke glowingly of the Pennsylvania commission, which he called “the best in the United States.” He had quite a different message for Marquardt, his long-time employee.

UFC 122: Marquardt vs Okami

“Bottom line, what Nate Marquardt did is bad enough to be cut by the UFC,” White said. “I'm disgusted with him. He has no business fighting in the UFC.”

Carwin vs Dos Santos at UFC 131: Breakdown & news

This is, by far, one of the most interesting and exciting UFC heavyweight match-ups in recent years. It's one of those fights where basically everyone is torn when picking a winner. We have two very powerful strikers who each have only very small holes in their fight games, and both can end a fight in the blink of an eye. Let's take a look at the competitors for current #1 contender status:

SHANE CARWIN:

MMA Record 12-1

UFC Record 4-1

Shane Carwin is one of the most physically imposing fighters in the heavyweight division. Massive in stature, Carwin is surprisingly quick and agile. This, unlike the power he possesses in his hands, plays into the "wild card" aspect of this fight with JDS. We all know that he can KO Dos Santos if he catches him cleanly, but how will Carwin counter a fighter with such great boxing skills?

Carwin has had a string of impressive wins in UFC competition. This led to his fight against (then champion) Brock Lesnar. Carwin dominated this fight in the first round and then appeared to experience a full gas-out at the end of the round. This is definitely forgivable, and I am sure that losing the way that he did to a fighter he clearly should have defeated, must be driving him forward in his current run back to the title. Shane Carwin is one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC's heavyweight division, hands down.

Let's look at another of the most exciting fighters in this same division...

JUNIOR DOS SANTOS:

MMA Record 12-1

UFC Record 6-0

JDS may not have as much pound-for-pound power in a single strike as Carwin does, but it would be difficult to argue that he doesn't possess the better boxing skills? He appears to be faster than Carwin while standing. The "wild card" aspect for JDS remains the same in this fight. How good is his takedown defense and how does he look on the ground? IF Carwin tries to muscle JDS around, clinch with him and do what he did to Frank Mir a while back, how will JDS respond and will he have an answer to the physical strength of Shane Carwin? Can he use his outstanding footwork to keep Carwin in range, where he can capitalize on speed and technical striking advantages?

JDS has had a very impressive UFC run thus far. Introducing himself to UFC fans with a one-punch KO of Fabricio Werdum, followed by impressive wins over Struve, Cro Cop, Yvel, Gonzaga & Nelson. He has solidly positioned himself at the top of the heap for a title shot. This fight with Carwin is obviously what will now make or break this title run.

WARRIOR SHANE CARWIN OFFICIAL FIGHTER MMA T-SHIRT SIZE X-LARGE
We haven't yet seen what has been dubbed "Carwin 2.0" in fight action. Since the surgery, recovery process, training camp and new diet, Carwin claims to feel the best he's felt in years. The results of this should be very interesting to see - and I assume that Carwin's cardio will not be an issue this time around. These factors weigh heavily in the fight being so difficult to call.

Who are you going with in this one? How do you see it going down? Can the winner defeat Velasquez?

Let us know what you think!

Five-round non-title fights in main events will be the standard in the UFC , no 3 rounds ?

Five-round non-title fights in main events will be the standard going forward in the UFC.

UFC president Dana White made the official announcement on Thursday that any fight signed from this day forward as a main event would be a five-round fight, regardless of whether or not it’s for a title.

Any fight currently signed for a main event that’s not a title fight, such as Rashad Evans and Phil Davis, who square off at UFC 133 in Philadelphia, will remain a three-round bout.

“What I don’t want to do to guys, fights that we’ve already made and they signed the bout agreement, you’re mentally training for a three-round fight. ‘Oh, now it’s five rounds’; you can’t do that to guys,” White stated.

He was specific in stating all future bout agreements for main event non-title fights would be five-round affairs.

“From this day forward, as we speak right here, right now today, every fight that is a main event that is not a title fight will be a five-round fight,” said White. “For Spike and everything else.”

This will be the first time in the modern history of the sport that MMA has had five-round fights that are not championship bouts.

White has long talked about making the move, and said they almost made the jump at UFC 131, but bout agreements had already been signed and the fighters were already in training camps to prepare for a three-round fight.

“We’re very close to doing it,” White revealed when speaking about five round non-title fights following UFC 129.

Now it is a reality.

White also specified that this policy is in effect for any show that the UFC produces whether it’s a pay-per-view or a UFC Fight Night event, main event fights will be five-round non-title bouts.

Let the cardio and conditioning workouts begin.

Two more bouts have been officially added to the upcoming Strikeforce:Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: Theory and Technique (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu series) Fedor vs. Henderson fight card set for July 30 in Chicago including a title fight between 135-pound champion Marloes Coenen and top contender Miesha Tate.Ultimate Krav Maga 5 DVD Box Set (Beginner to Intermediate) - Combatives, Self Defense, Fighting and Weapons
The bouts were announced by Strikeforce officials on Saturday.

The other fight announced for the late July card is a light heavyweight bout between Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal and grappling ace Roger Gracie. MMAWeekly.com first reported the bout between Lawal and Gracie in early April, and now Strikeforce has confirmed the bout as a done deal for the card.

Lawal will be returning to action for the first time since losing the Strikeforce light heavyweight title to Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante in 2010. Since that time, Lawal had to have surgery to repair some nagging injuries, but he’s healthy again and ready to make his climb back into the 205-pound title picture.

Strikeforce women’s welterweight champion Marloes Coenen will look to make her second successful title defense, this time facing Miesha Tate. The pair were originally set to square off in March, but a late training injury forced Tate out of the bout.

Coenen went on to submit replacement Liz Carmouche in the fourth round of their title bout in Ohio. This will be Tate’s first fight since winning a one night tournament in Strikeforce in the summer of 2010.

The two new bouts will be featured on the main card of the Showtime event headlined by formerCesar Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Grappling Instructional Series Pride heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko taking on current Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Dan Henderson in a special heavyweight super fight
