Alistair Overeem dropped by strike force ProElite is next ?
HDNet Fights: Fedor Returns
Zuffa LLC, the parent company of Strikeforce, has severed ties with heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem, according to a report by MMAJunkie.com.
The news was first reported Friday night on HDNet, which said Strikeforce exercised its option to eliminate the final fight on Overeem's contract.
That decision became effective July 22.
"He got cut because he declined to fight on Sept. 10 because he was injured," Overeem's trainer, Martijn de Jong, told ESPN.com. "He accepted the United Glory fight after he was cut. He was non-exclusive anyways."
ESPN.com has not yet been able to confirm the report with Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker.
Overeem (35-11-0, 1 no contest) was scheduled to compete Sept. 10 against Antonio "Big Foot" Silva during a Strikeforce World Grand Prix heavyweight tournament semifinal bout in Cincinnati.
But Overeem, with the support of his management team Golden Glory, withdrew from the event after complaining of a toe injury.
Overeem, who defeated Fabricio Werdum during a World Grand Prix first-round bout in June, claimed he needed more time to completely recover and conduct a full training camp.
De Jong said "serious" toe and rib injuries kept Overeem from participating in the semifinal leg of Strikeforce's Heavyweight World Grand Prix.
It was Overeem's desire to have his next fight delayed until October, but no date was available to Strikeforce during that month. All of the promotion's bouts air on Showtime, and the cable network did not have any open dates in October.
The dispute between Overeem and Strikeforce led to the champion being replaced in the World Grand Prix heavyweight tournament by highly touted Daniel Cormier, who is 8-0-0 as a professional. Cormier will face Silva (16-2-0) on Sept. 10.
Overeem is scheduled to appear in the United Glory World Series. That event is tentatively scheduled for October, though no official date has been set. It is expected to be held in Moscow.

Proelite, Inc. (Pink Sheets:PELE), a subsidiary of Stratus Media Group Inc. (OTCBB:SMDI), today announces the signing of former UFC Champion, Andrei “the Pitbull” Arlovski, and 2009 NCAA Division 1 Heavyweight Wrestling Champion, Mark “Blue Chip” Ellis.
Paul Feller, Chairman and CEO of Stratus and Chairman of ProElite, said, “We share the excitement for Arlovski and Ellis with MMA fight fans around the world. The signing of these world renowned MMA athletes underscores ProElite’s commitment to the development of world class live entertainment for our action sports MMA growth.”
"Andre and Mark are a promoter’s dream,” said T.Jay Thompson, VP, ProElite Fight Operations. “Five or six fights down the line we could see these two in the cage at the same time."
Andrei Arlovski, one of the most popular MMA athletes of all time, most recently competed under the Strikeforce banner. The former UFC Heavyweight Champion is the first marquee MMA fighter signed by ProElite this year.
"Andrei is a world class athlete and still has a ton of heart left in him to fight his way back to a championship," added Thompson.
Mark Ellis, standing at 6'5”, 255lb, and 2009 NCAA Division 1 Heavyweight Champion at the University of Missouri, is a highly sought after rookie fighter. Recently, Ellis began training alongside UFC Champion Cain Valesquez at famed AKA Gym in San Jose, California.
“Mark has all the makings of a World Champion,” said Bob Cook, AKA Head Trainer. “He is an MMA newcomer and is already competing head to head with our other athletes like Cain and Olympian Daniel Cormier. Mark has the capacity to compete and beat the best in the business.”
Arlovski and Ellis will make their 2011 ProElite debut at the recently announced August 27 fight at Neal S. Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu, HI.

The Trilogy ?: Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard 3 Set for UFC 136 Fight Card
UFC Personal Trainer
Like an epic trilogy should come to a crescendo, UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard will look to close the final chapter on their story as they meet on the UFC 136 fight card in Houston.
Sources close to the match-up confirmed that verbal agreements are in place for the Oct. 8 fight, set to headline UFC 136. MMAFighting.com first confirmed the bout on Friday.
While the fight has been rumored for the UFC 136 fight card for over a month, Edgar and Maynard both recently received medical clearance to get back into training and make the fight official.
As previously mentioned, Edgar and Maynard have met twice before with Maynard winning the first tilt, the second ending in a draw after an epic five-round battle.
The two lightweights were originally scheduled to headline UFC 130 in May, but both fighters suffered injuries in training and were forced off the card.
Now healthy, the Edgar/Maynard trilogy will finally come to a close in October with the winner looking to solidify their place as the top lightweight in the UFC.
Bout agreements are expected to be issued at any time to make the fight official.

MMAPayout had the opportunity to interview Vice President of Fight Operations for ProElite T. Jay Thompson. He spoke to us about the August 27 event, his goals for the promotion, and what we can expect from ProElite going forward.
ProElite hosted it’s first MMA event, which was televised on Showtime, back in February of 2007. In total, ProElite was able to produce 21 MMA events before it closed it’s doors in October of 2008, as it accumulated a debt of $55 million in the span of less than 24 months of operations.
EliteXC’s failure and Strikeforce being purchase by Zuffa earlier this year, despite both having historic network television deals and a number of MMA stars on it’s roster, begs the question: Can a viable competitor emerge? Can the market sustain another national promotion over the long-term? T. Jay Thompson believes becoming a profitable number two promotion is the initial goal this time around for ProElite.
MP: What will the name of the MMA promotion be under ProElite and does ProElite still have rights to EliteXC, Cage Rage, etc?
Thompson: We will be using ProElite as the name of the promotion, as the ProElite name still has value and brand equity. We still own part of the rights and library to EliteXC and Strikeforce owns others after the asset purchase, but we still have the rights to other promotions such as Cage Rage and ICON for example.
MP: So far, the rumors are Kala Hose vs Drew McFedries, Raquel Pa’aluhi vs Sara McMann, Jake Huen vs Mark Ellis, Andrei Arlovski, and Kendall Grove all possibly participating in the upcoming August 27 event taking place at the Blaisdell Arena in Hawaii. Can you confirm any of these fights? Will there be an emphasis in Women’s MMA?
Thompson: There will be an announcement this week but all I can say is that you guys have done a very good job. Those fights sound very plausible. I can tell you that we signed the first American woman in history to receive a silver medal in women’s wrestling at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Sara McMann and she will be taking on Raquel Pa’aluhi, who comes from a great Hawaiian MMA background. Whether male or female fighters, we are talking to anyone that’s available and that makes sense for us and what markets we are in.
MP: How will MMA fans be able to watch the August 27 event? Are there any concerns about running the show on the same day as the monumental UFC 134: Silva vs Okami taking place in Brazil?
Thompson: The event will be available for fans most likely by streaming from a major MMA website. We are hoping for a TV deal to be in place, but realistically, it will most likely be streamed from Hawaii at 7PM local, which means it will air just after UFC 134 at 10PM on the west coast. We are not trying to compete with the UFC, and just like a fighter coming back from a long layoff, we have to work out the kinks and ring rust. We hope to do that in the first couple of shows.
MP: Does ProElite have any major sponsors lined up for the August 27 event?
Thompson: We are currently not aligned with any major sponsors. As for the event, nothing is official just yet, but we aren’t expecting many major sponsors for the first event.
MP: ProElite CEO Paul Feller has mentioned before that a lot of what PE will do in the future depends on what happens with Strikeforce on Showtime and the UFC/Bellator on Spike TV. Is the goal to eventually land a TV deal with one of those big outlets?
Thompson: My job is to put ProElite in a position to capitalize on any opportunities that present themselves in the future. So we won’t rule anything out at this point. Stratus Media has talented people and many have worked in/with the TV industry, so we feel pretty confident we will be on a TV outlet by our second event.
MP: When will the second event take place and how many events are you planning for 2011?
Thompson: The second event will take place in November, which is when we believe we will have a TV deal in place. That means we will have 2 shows in 2011, then ramp up for 2012.
MP: How will ProElite be funded and operated this time around? It was well documented that the website, offices, employee salaries, etc were above and beyond what they should have been in terms of spending.
Ultimate Warrior Workouts (Training for Warriors): Fitness Secrets of the Martial Arts
Thompson: ProElite will be ran lean and mean this time around. It was frustrating watching PE burn through money and there was nothing I could do. It’s a reason why we are only holding two events this year. We want to analyze and make decisions that make sense for the company and our shareholders.
MP: Will Hawaii be the home-base of ProElite, similar to what San Jose was for Strikeforce?
Thompson: We want to host about 2-3 shows in Hawaii every year but I wouldn’t say we have a home-base. Remember that our offices are located in California, so we will see. Our goal is to go into markets that make the most sense.
MP: Is running MMA events out of Hawaii a concern, considering the MMA tax after the sport was regulated there a few years ago?
Thompson: Hawaii gets 4% on the gate, 4% on PPV revenue, but it is capped at $50K, so it’s no different if we hosted the event in California or New Jersey. Dana White made those comments back when the UFC was looking at putting on an event in Hawaii, but those regulations have been modified since. I wouldn’t be surprised if the UFC came to Hawaii soon and ran a show from the Aloha Stadium.
***
Part 2 of the interview will discuss the differences between the old ProElite and the what he envisions this time around, and his thoughts on Rich Chou, Dana White, Women’s MMA, being a promoter for the past 15 years, and being a huge MMA fan.

In March of 2011 Pro Elite was rumored to be the unsuccessful second bidder against the UFC in an attempt to acquire rival MMA promotion Strikefore. The offer was said to exceed 40 million dollars. Principals at Pro Elte immediately confirmed the companies intention to re enter the MMA live event promotional business as they had with the record breaking Kimbo Slice events on CBS. Rumors immediately began circulating that Pro Elite was targeted as a strategic acquisition by either the UFC or an unidentified third party investor wishing to enter the MMA promotional space. PELE.PK stock jumped from .01 per share to more then .20 per share in two days as investors realized the stock routinely traded at $15 per share while Pro Elite was promoting live events.

ProElite to Rise Again? Good Read!
When news broke of the UFC purchasing Strikeforce last week, one of the interesting aspects was the mention of ProElite (PELE.PK) as a bidder for Strikeforce. Other than a few minor press releases after the organization had been purchased by Stratus Media Group, the company had been totally silent. However, it now seems apparent that the company had been making moves behind the scenes during this “quiet” period.
When Stratus purchased ProElite in early 2010, the first announced actions taken were the hiring of certain key personnel from “old” Pro elite. These were largely the management from the old company that were responsible for the positive achievements the company had made.
Douglas DeLuca was appointed to the board of directors. His bio on the ProElite.com website highlights his achievements of having “negotiated and closed deals for ProElite with a number of media entities including Showtime Networks, CBS Television, Mark Burnett Productions, IMG, and Fox Sports Net.” He is also cited as having numerous accomplishments in the production of a variety of TV series, specials, and feature films. Mr. DeLuca can be a major asset in ProElite getting new television deals due to his prior experience within the industry
Glenn Golenberg was also added as a board member. His accomplishments include his involvement in “…the financial services industry since 1966 and been involved in transactions that have historically included mergers and acquisitions, initial public offerings (IPO’s), financial restructurings, venture capital financings, and leveraged buyouts (LBO’s).” Mr. Golenberg is likely one of the key players for ProElite in negotiating with Strikeforce and other potential acquisitions.
Keith Walner was hired as Senior Counsel/Vice President of Business & Legal Affairs. His experience includes “20 years of experience as an attorney and a business & legal affairs executive within the entertainment industry handling a wide range of matters for live sports and entertainment events, as well as media distribution for major network broadcast television, premium cable, satellite television, and pay-per-view distribution.” Among his duties for the company, “Mr. Walner oversees all company legal matters, including production, distribution, censorship, advertising, and rights clearance. He handles all content acquisition and licensing for all domestic and international events and distribution and manages the organization’s intellectual property rights.” Mr. Walner's expertise would seem to be essential in negotiating the legal aspects of new TV deals and other intellectual properties for the company.
Obviously, these individuals were brought on board for their specific skills and experience. This would seem to indicate that ProElite has some pretty high aspirations for the company.
Paul Feller (CEO of Stratus Media and Chairman of the Board for ProElite) has previously indicated his desire to produce international events. The company still owns rights to the Cage Rage and Spirit MC brands along with the EliteXC brand. Cage Rage produced quality fight cards in Great Britain for many years. Spirit MC had produced numerous event in S. Korea featuring mostly Asian talent. It will be interesting to see if ProElite revives these brands, goes with the old EliteXC brand, or starts a new brand.
ProElite was able to become debt free before the purchase by Stratus and produces revenue thanks to deals made by the old CEO Chuck Champion. When Strikeforce bought some certain assets of ProElite, part of the deal was that ProElite would get payments from Strikeforce for each event produced until as late as 2013. Mr. Champion also made an agreement with Terry Trebilcock to allow King of the Cage to become an independent organization once again. As part of the arrangement, KOTC would make payments to ProElite for a specific period of time.
It is known that CBS/Showtime had been a shareholder in ProElite as part of an arrangement with the old company and there hasn't been any indication that CBS ever sold their shares. Whether CBS has any influence with the new owners remains to be seen.
Stock Investing Simplified
Since recent reports of ProElite attempting to purchase Strikeforce have indicated the company made offers for the purchase of Strikeforce of up to $40 million in value (cash and equity), it appears the company has access to the funding needed to relaunch the once major organization. The negotiations to purchase Strikeforce also explain the silent period after Stratus purchased ProElite since the company would have to be very careful about any information that could be released during that time due to SEC regulations and such.
There seems to be a huge opportunity in the world of Mixed Martial Arts now as the UFC's number one competitor (Strikeforce) is now under their control. At this point in time, there is no clear cut number two organization. If ProElite can relaunch with the kind of funding and expertise they seem to have available, it's possible they could once again become the major competitor to the UFC.
ProElite is based in Los Angeles, California. According to their website, the company's mission statement is: “To empower the MMA community by rebuilding and strengthening ProElite to earn the respect of fighters and fans alike, while ensuring thrilling live events that showcase the world’s leading fighters.”

Andrei Arlovski Signed, Kendall Grove Possible for August ProElite Show

Former UFC heavyweight champ and ex-Strikeforce fighter Andrei Arlovski is among the first fighters to sign with the newly relaunched ProElite promotion, and will be one of the headliners of its upcoming August 27 card.
ProElite's director of operations T. Jay Thompson confirmed with Hawaii's KHON that Arlovski has inked a deal to participate.
MMA Fighting reported last week that ProElite would return to the event promotion business under new ownership group Stratus Media.
ProElite's Aug. 27 show will take place at Blaisdell Arena in Oahu, Hawaii.
Though once a UFC champion, Arlovski has struggled lately, losing four consecutive fights, including three by knockout. Arlovski was part of Strikeforce's Heavyweight World Grand Prix, but was knocked out by Russian Sergei Kharitonov in the first round of their February fight. Prior to that, he'd lost consecutive fights to Antonio Silva, Brett Rogers and Fedor Emelianenko.
Thompson didn't name any other fighters signed to the promotion, but among those rumored are former UFC fighter Kendall Grove.
A longtime UFC star, Grove was the winner of The Ultimate Fighter's season 3, and went on to a five-year run with the promotion, but after a three-fight win streak to start his UFC run, he could never find the consistency to make him a contender. He fought 13 times in the UFC, going 7-6. He was cut shortly after his last fight, a decision loss to Tim Boetsch at UFC 130.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported that former UFC fighter Drew McFedries may also take part in the event, likely facing Kala Kolohe Hose.

Patricio "Pitbull" Freire out of Bellator 47 with broken hand, title fight to be rebooked for fall
by John M. Dann S.
A broken hand has forced Patricio "Pitbull" Freire (17-1 MMA, 5-1 BFC) to withdraw from a planned fight with Bellator Fighting Championships featherweight champion Joe Warren (7-1 MMA, 5-0 BFC).Mixed Martial Arts For Dummies
MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed the injury with Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney, who said the fight will likely be rebooked following Warren's participation on the promotion's upcoming season-five bantamweight tourney.
Freire and Warren had been expected to meet at Bellator 47, which takes place on July 23 at Casino Rama in Rama, Ontario, Canada.
Bellator 47, which airs on MTV2 as part of Bellator's "Summer Series" events, will still feature the semifinals of Bellator's current featherweight tournament.
Warren was looking to defend the 145-pound belt for the first time since defeating Joe Soto in September 2010 to take the crown. The former Greco-Roman wrestling world champion most recently saw action in a 137-pound catchweight win over Marcos Galvao this past April.
Warren is now expected to return on Sept. 24 for an opening-round tournament bout at Bellator 51, as he bids for a title in the 135-pound division, as well.
Meanwhile, Freire was looking to avenge the lone loss of his career. The Brazilian youngster was a finalist in Bellator's season-two featherweight tournament, where he ultimately lost a hard-fought split decision to Warren. Freire the returned to the promotion and earned the season-four tournament title

UFC 132 Results And Dana White thoughts on the fights ..
With the little guys headlining UFC 132UFC Personal Trainer
, some casual fans may not have been stoked to check out this year’s Fourth of July weekend UFC card, but those who tuned in and bought tickets certainly got their money’s worth. The card produced three awesome knockouts, some major upsets and one of the best UFC moments in years with Tito Ortiz pulling off the shocker in absolute must-win situation against Ryan Bader.
- UFC president Dana White was impressed and said Tito will be sticking around.
“Not only did he win the fight. He won the fight impressively, you know dropping the younger stronger and many people thought he had better hands. Dropping Bader and then submitting him.” White said.
- White said this should be it for another veteran Wanderlei Silva. The soon-to-be 35-year-old was knocked out badly inside of one minute by Chris Leben.
“People love him so much for the way he fights. The style and the kind of person he is. Yeah, it’s probably the end of the road for Wanderlei,” said White.
With an exciting five-round battle, UFC 132 delivered a solid event overall. In addition to Dominick Cruz’ long-awaited revenge over rival Urijah Faber, Tito Ortiz scored his first win since 2006, while Chris Leben delivered an impressive stoppage of Wanderlei Silva.
Here’s a closer look, with the UFC 132 Stock Report.
Stock up
Dominick Cruz: He waited four years; and debuting in the UFC as the champ in a headliner bout, delivered big. Cruz’ performance tonight showed how much his game has matured, as he utilized his trademark slick standup, with the threat of takedowns to finish strong to take a unanimous decision. While judge Sal D’Amato’s card of 50-45 was off (this writer had it 48-47 for Cruz), the 135-poun ace closed hard down the stretch as a champion should.
In addition to getting payback for the sole loss of his career, Cruz, now 18-1, performed the neat trick of simultaneously jump-starting the UFC’s bantamweight division with a good championship fight, while setting up a rubber match that is promotable as well. All in all, a great start for the UFC 135-pound titlist.
Tito Ortiz: With a stunning submission win over favored Ryan Bader, Ortiz recouped from a 0-4-1 slide, injecting much-needed life into a career that faced a certain release from the UFC if he’d lost. A polarizing figure throughout his 14-year career in the UFC, Ortiz’ post-fight celebration had to make even the most hardened critics a little nostalgic; working his patented gravedigger routine after getting the tap from Bader, Tito looked every bit like a hard-traveled veteran who appreciated the spoils of a big win.
Tapout Ryan Bader UFC 132 Walkout T-Shirt, XXL
It’s been a while, and this one gives him firm promotional footing for at least two more fights. As an added bonus, we can look forward to more Twitter awesomeness between he and UFC President Dana White.
Chris Leben: In a classic Lebenesque showing, the middleweight slugger was drilled early and came back huge, rebounding with his big left hand to stop Wanderlei Silva. Fighting an idol in a high-profile bout, Leben showed why he’s always a punch away from being in the winner’s circle and a promotional favorite. The biggest win of his career, it also removes the bad taste of his stoppage loss to Brian Stann in his previous outing.
Carlos Conit File Photo
Condit is on a roll in the UFC.Melvin Guillard: Clinical, laser-sharp and destructive, Guillard was like a bomb going off against Shane Roller. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: he’s the most physically gifted lightweight in the world, and a handful for anyone. The big question is, can he adjust in tough fights against the very best? We’ll soon find out. He’s probably the worst guy in the division to make a mistake against, given his power and ability to exploit openings.
Carlos Condit: Faced with a potentially daunting style matchup, Condit showed why he’d finished 25 opponents in 26 previous wins -- by going for it and damning the consequences. With a gorgeous flying knee he stunned Kim and took him out with a follow-up attack. Now a proven top-tier welter, he’s
also becoming highly marketable off this win and his
one-punch blowout of Dan Hardy.
Hold
Dennis Siver and Matt Wiman: While Siver took a unanimous 29-28 decision, the lightweight bout between mid-tier contenders was largely inconclusive. Siver took the first with his counters and takedown defense, while Wiman rebounded in the second, bloodying Siver with ground and pound and consistent top control. The third saw both largely run out of gas -- like a high school kegger that started strong and then fizzled when the power went out and the parents came home. Not necessarily a bad showing by either guy, but none of the elite lightweights are going to lose sleep watching a replay of this one.
Urijah Faber: In a close bid to take Cruz’ bantamweight belt, Faber fell just short in an exciting bout. Over the five-round distance, the champ’s mercurial style and overall volume proved the difference, though Faber clearly landed the harder and more effective shots. Interestingly, Cruz got the better of the wrestling battle, threatening over the last half of the bout with several, from which Faber consistently scrambled up and away from. A third match is a natural with these two; it will be up to Faber to adjust his tactics accordingly.
Brian Bowles: With his oft-injured right hand tweaked again against Takeya Mizugaki, Bowles could only offer a so-so showing, taking a decision win. Style-wise, this seemed like a winnable fight for him, but the hand clearly affected his ability to operate. The former champ definitely needs time to heal up.
Stock down
Wanderlei Silva: Silva simply hasn’t looked his old self. Whether it’s the weight cut at the advanced age of 34 (he turns 35 Sunday) or the numerous battles, he’s not the same fighter he used to be. Taken out by Leben in 27 seconds, the once-stout resilience and fighting machine that terrorized Pride is no longer the guy in the cage. Like another legend and all-time great, Silva’s venturing into Chuck Liddell territory if he continues to fight. Now 2-4 with the UFC, is he still too big a name to release, for fear that another promotion could pick him up? We’ll soon find out.
Ryan Bader: After being dominated by Jon Jones, on paper, Bader couldn’t have gotten a better opponent in terms of risk-reward than Ortiz, a name ex-champ who hadn’t won in five fights. Hurt by a right hand and submitted in the first, Bader’s stock takes a hit here, as this was the kind of fight a guy in his position is supposed to win.
Shane Roller: Blitzed out by the dangerous Guillard, Roller was simply outmatched on the feet. A mid-level 155er in the WEC with a potential upside, his striking remains very raw, leaving him dangerously exposed, something Guillard exploited.
Dong Hyun Kim: Going into the Condit bout, Kim was 14-0-1, and probably the least-hyped unbeaten fighter on the UFC’s roster. Handed his first loss, it’s back to the drawing board for the South Korean.
Takeya Mizugaki: Laconic and uninspired against Bowles, Mizugaki can’t seem to get over the bantamweight hump. Since his gutty title fight decision loss to then-champ Miguel Torres, he’s gone 3-3 and didn’t fight with much passion tonight.
- Not only did Ortiz remove head from the chopping block, he hauled in a nice postfight bonus. Ortiz along with Urijah Faber, Dominick Cruz and Carlos Condit each got $75,000. Ortiz was awarded Submission of the night, Condit Knockout of the Night and Faber/Cruz got Fight of the Night.
The knockout award was a tough decision. A disappointed Melvin Guillard shook his head during the presser and Chris Leben was hoping to get a bonus as well. White revealed that the 25-minute scrap between Faber and Cruz actually screwed Leben and Guillard. Without an obvious fight of the night, the promotion had planned on awarding three KO of the Night awards.
- The Cruz-Faber fight was very difficult to score and left Faber extremely disappointed. At least he kept it together in the Octagon. Matt Wiman failed to hold it together when it was announced he’d lost a close decision to Denis Siver. Wiman ran from the Octagon and eventually out of the building. White no issue with the decision. He scored it for Siver, but did say one celebrity onlooker disagreed vehemently. Justin Bieber thought Wiman won the fight. There’s no news on whether the 17-year-old singer also left the arena in disgust. A less than thrilled Bieber is pictured below with the legendary Chuck Liddell. It’s hard to smile for a photo after missing on out plus-240 Wiman payday.
- Ortiz admitted he was a little annoyed that he didn’t bet on himself. Bader closed as a minus-550 favorite in the MGM Grand sportsbook. A $100 bet on Tito would’ve brought home $400. Ortiz said he was glad to get the $75,000 bonus which he’ll use to “put away for my sons and, I don’t know, maybe go gamble a little bit tonight because is so damn good.”
- White was blown away by Condit and his knockout.
“How easily he did it. How technical it was. He fought an incredible fight tonight. He’s been great in his last two shows,” said White. Condit also destroyed Dan Hardy at UFC 120. “Yeah, he’s proved himself to be one of the best 170 pounders in the world. The guy that he beat tonight [Dong Hyun Kim] was undefeated in the UFC”
- Both Faber and Cruz admitted they barely remembered the details of their five-round war.
“You get really instinctual in there and I can’t really remember the fight. Right after the fight the doctor asked me how I feel and I said ‘I feel great!’ Now I feel like [expletive],” laughed Faber. “You always have to take a look at the actual fight and see what happened.”
“By the end of the fight, you really don’t know what happened,” Cruz said. “I can’t really remember much of anything. You go in there and it’s like a whirlwind in there. Feels like I was in a tornado, you know? I was running into stuff (Cruz wobbles his head) likes dressers and what not. My shoulders hurt. My face hurts. I was just going out there to scrap.”
- It was a tale of two cards. The four Facebook fights were less than scintillating. According to Yahoo! Sports’ Dave Meltzer, UFC matchmaker Joe Silva went into the locker room to give a “pep talk.” He told the remaining fighters that the card needed pick-me-up and it was up to them to save it. The next two fights on Spike resulted in a 59-second knockout by Rafael dos Anjos and Guillard finished Shane Roller in 2:12.
- Looking to the future, Ortiz mentioned that he’d like to face the winner of the August fight between Forrest Griffin and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. Guillard mentioned Jim Miller as his choice. When asked about rematching Siver, Guillard said he’d knock him out again. White and matchmaker Joe Silva were asked about what’s next for Cruz? Silva then deferred to WEC’s former matchmaker Sean Shelby, who said both Brian Bowles and Demetrious Johnson were candidates.
