UFC 166 Cain vs Dos Santos main card fight breakdowns and predictions
UFC 166 tonight!! Cain vs Dos Santos. Here are my main card fight breakdowns and predictions!
Dodson Vs. Montague
This is the fight starting off on the complete opposite side of the weight scale. Dodson and Montague are both some of the very best Flyweights, Dodson a former title contender, and Montague is in his Debut, but was still considered by many to be the best in the flyweight. Montague has a wonderful wrestling game, but Dodson has all the ability to keep it standing, where his incredible quickness, and powerhouse strikes are gonna break the deal. This will probably be a ver fast paced fight from start til knock out.

Gonzaga vs Jordan
Gonzaga has his highlight reel finish, but has a suspect chin. I think this fight is gonna start off with a few pick your spot shots, but eventually Jordan with his great former football athleticism, and God like power, is gonna start taking the fight with a few strikes, where he will be more aggressive and win the KO.

Gilbert Melendez vs Diego Sanchez
From here on out, its gonna be battle of the Aggressors in each bout. Its always hard to choose on a Sanchez fight, because you never know which man to expect. Although I expect us too see a very fun Sanchez. He is looking fit as hell, and mean, we're gonna see a mix of The Nightmare and The Dream, that being said... Sanchez's strength vs Melendez is in the wrestling, I believe both fighter are going to come out pushing forward back and forth. Sanchez's game is only so strong when he is pushed back though, and Gilbert had the ability to take down Former champ Benson Henderson. I believe the Diaz team mate is gonna take this to the end, but by no means will it be a boring decision, expect to see possible FOTN.

Roy Nelson vs Daniel Cormier
Its always hard to bed against Roy Nelsons Right hand, but DC is an incredible athlete. Both are looking fit, but I would bet my money on DC's Cardio vs. Nelsons Punch any day. Its gonna be whoever pushes forward most, but DC will eventually take that with his superior striking, and on the spot wrestling. DC's biggest weakness appears to be kicks, but he doesnt have much to fear from Roy Nelson, who was taken down by Frank Mir multiple times, who is not near the wrestler that Cormier is. Cormier will take this to the third, where a chance of TKO is possible, but Nelson isnt an easy one to finish, even when gassed out the way Cormier will be able to make him.

Velasquez vs Dos Santos
THIS is the fight we have all been waiting for, possibly the most anticipated match of the year, the trilogy between Velasquez may be coming to an end. I would never bet money on this fight, because Dos Santos can always land that KO strike, but if he doesnt, he will lose. Again, this all matters on who the most aggressive is, but I think Dos Santos will only be able to resist Cains forward pressure for so long before it goes to hell for him. A lot of people believe Cain pushing forward the way he does leaves him open, which technically it does, but the way he pushes forward with combos, and changing levels and angles, really closes off the offense of his opponent, Including JDS. Cain is going to want to prove his ability to finish, but will not kill strategy for it. He fights like a Welterweight and after the second round, he will not have as much to worry about from JDS as long as he worked the first two right, and gassed out his opponent. JDS will be looking to land a highlight reel kick or overhand right, both which may leave him open for Cains quick Takedowns, where Cain will grind and beat JDS for as long as possible. It all ends in the third round though, when Cain looks to prove JDS's statements wrong, and puts an end to it with punches.

Carwin vs Dos Santos at UFC 131: Breakdown & news
This is, by far, one of the most interesting and exciting UFC heavyweight match-ups in recent years. It's one of those fights where basically everyone is torn when picking a winner. We have two very powerful strikers who each have only very small holes in their fight games, and both can end a fight in the blink of an eye. Let's take a look at the competitors for current #1 contender status:
SHANE CARWIN:

UFC Record 4-1
Shane Carwin is one of the most physically imposing fighters in the heavyweight division. Massive in stature, Carwin is surprisingly quick and agile. This, unlike the power he possesses in his hands, plays into the "wild card" aspect of this fight with JDS. We all know that he can KO Dos Santos if he catches him cleanly, but how will Carwin counter a fighter with such great boxing skills?
Carwin has had a string of impressive wins in UFC competition. This led to his fight against (then champion) Brock Lesnar. Carwin dominated this fight in the first round and then appeared to experience a full gas-out at the end of the round. This is definitely forgivable, and I am sure that losing the way that he did to a fighter he clearly should have defeated, must be driving him forward in his current run back to the title. Shane Carwin is one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC's heavyweight division, hands down.
Let's look at another of the most exciting fighters in this same division...
JUNIOR DOS SANTOS:

UFC Record 6-0
JDS may not have as much pound-for-pound power in a single strike as Carwin does, but it would be difficult to argue that he doesn't possess the better boxing skills? He appears to be faster than Carwin while standing. The "wild card" aspect for JDS remains the same in this fight. How good is his takedown defense and how does he look on the ground? IF Carwin tries to muscle JDS around, clinch with him and do what he did to Frank Mir a while back, how will JDS respond and will he have an answer to the physical strength of Shane Carwin? Can he use his outstanding footwork to keep Carwin in range, where he can capitalize on speed and technical striking advantages?
JDS has had a very impressive UFC run thus far. Introducing himself to UFC fans with a one-punch KO of Fabricio Werdum, followed by impressive wins over Struve, Cro Cop, Yvel, Gonzaga & Nelson. He has solidly positioned himself at the top of the heap for a title shot. This fight with Carwin is obviously what will now make or break this title run.

We haven't yet seen what has been dubbed "Carwin 2.0" in fight action. Since the surgery, recovery process, training camp and new diet, Carwin claims to feel the best he's felt in years. The results of this should be very interesting to see - and I assume that Carwin's cardio will not be an issue this time around. These factors weigh heavily in the fight being so difficult to call.

UFC 131 fight card
The UFC 131 fight card was scheduled to feature the conclusion of this upcoming season's The Ultimate Fighter coach showdown between Brock Lesnar and Junior Dos Santos, but that has since changed.
Lesnar was forced to pull out due to his latest battle with diverticulitis. In his place with be Shane Carwin (12-1). Dos Santos (12-1) is 6-0 in the UFC.
UFC 131 takes place Saturday, June 11 at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, B.C., Canada.

TUFF 13 COACHES ANNOUCED ( BROCK LESNAR VS ?? )
The big men of mixed martial arts are back on The Ultimate Fighter, but this time, they will be coaching, not competing.
UFC President Dana White announced today that former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and number one contender Junior dos Santos will match wits as the coaches of season 13 of the hit Spike TV reality series.
Following the season, which begins filming later this month and begins airing on March 30, Lesnar and dos Santos will then match fists in the Octagon at a date and location to be announced in June. The winner will face current heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, who is currently sidelined with a torn rotator cuff.
“It’s gonna be a very interesting six weeks of filming,” said White during a media teleconference Tuesday. “These two will coach, then they’ll fight, and the winner of the fight will fight Cain Velasquez when he’s healthy.”
This will be the first time either fighter has appeared on The Ultimate Fighter, which began airing on Spike in 2005. The last time heavyweights coached the show was during season eight in 2008, when dos Santos’ mentor, “Minotauro” Nogueira, faced off against former champion Frank Mir. This season, the two will coach a host of welterweight hopefuls looking to secure a UFC contract.
One of the biggest success stories of recent years, Brock Lesnar’s rise to the top of the UFC has been well-documented. A former NCAA Division I wrestling champion for the University of Minnesota, Lesnar brought size, speed, and power to the Octagon in 2008, and in only his fourth professional fight, he defeated Randy Couture for the heavyweight crown. After successful defenses against Mir and Shane Carwin, Lesnar lost his belt to Velasquez at UFC 121 last October. Determined to get his championship back, Lesnar knows the quickest way to do so is through dos Santos.
“The guy’s a former world champion, he’s beat guys and held the title,” said White of Lesnar. “No matter what his record is, what the guy has accomplished in the short amount of time that he’s been in MMA is incredible. He’s obviously got a lot that he can teach, and not only him, but the staff that he has around him have a lot to teach young, up and coming guys, and that’s what it’s really all about.”
Unheralded Brazilian prospect Junior dos Santos turned into a contender overnight in 2008 when he knocked out highly-regarded veteran Fabricio Werdum in the first round. This spectacular debut was followed by finishes of Stefan Struve, Mirko Cro Cop, Gilbert Yvel, and Gabriel Gonzaga before earning a shot at the heavyweight title with a three round win over Roy Nelson. Yet instead of choosing to wait for Velasquez to return to action, dos Santos will risk his number one contender’s spot by coaching against - and then fighting - Lesnar later this year.
“Junior dos Santos is a young, up and coming guy,” said White of dos Santos. “He’s been knocking everybody out, comes off a three round war with “Big Country” (Roy Nelson) and I love when guys do that because it’s good for them, it’s good experience, it gets them in better shape and it takes them to another level. And to put this guy on the shelf for a long time is ridiculous, and much credit to him for not wanting to go on the shelf.”
